Jose Mourinho will reportedly tell board to pick between Burnley and RB Leipzig, They need to overturn a 1-0 deficit against RB Leipzig in Germany next week

Jose Mourinho will reportedly tell the Spurs board to choose between Burnley and RB Leipzig                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Mourinho wants the Tottenham hierarchy to pick between the Premier League and the Champions League over the next week as his side cannot focus on both, according to the BBC Spurs crashed out of the domestic cup competition on penalties to Norwich on following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.Tottenham travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in English top-flight action on Saturday evening.
Mourinho and his side then make the trip to Germany to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Manchester City may yet take their place in next season's Champions League The Premier League champions have launched an appeal to CAS over UEFA ban Depending how long process takes, they may have to be admitted for 2020-21

Manchester City may still play in next season's Champions League due to their CAS appeal                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Man City could still find themselves playing in next season's UCL even if the Court of Arbitration for Sport uphold UEFA's decision to ban them for two years.
City's appeal against their suspension for 'serious breaches' of UEFA's financial regulations was confirmed by CAS on Wednesday, with the club's chief executive Ferran Soriano stating the accusations are 'simply not true'.
A statement released by the court on the appeal being lodged said that 'it is not possible' to say when the matter will be resolved. Depending on how long the case takes, it means City could yet find themselves in Europe's top competition next season, even if their appeal is not successful.
This would rely on City applying for a stay of the ban, and the CAS arbitrator panel agreeing to grant it.

Lucas Torreira was taken off on a stretcher early on during the FA Cup victory Portsmouth's James Bolton went in for a crunching tackle on the Uruguayan

Lucas Torreira fractured his right ankle during Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Portsmouth                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow after it was confirmed that midfielder Lucas Torreira had fractured his right ankle during the victory over Portsmouth.
Torreira was taken off on a stretcher early on during the 2-0 victory at Fratton Park following a crunching tackle from Portsmouth's James Bolton.
And on Thursday morning, the Gunners confirmed the injury was serious, which will come as a massive blow in the club's hunt for a Champions League spot. on Thursday: 'Awaiting further specialist reviews which will determine recovery plan.'
The Uruguayan left the stadium on crutches and on Wednesday, Torreira posted a video on Instagram of him working out in the gym while wearing a protective boot.
After the final whistle on Monday, Portsmouth defender Bolton claimed he had no regrets over his challenge but did wish a speedy recovery to the Arsenal star.
'It was a great tackle,' Bolton told the BBC on Monday night. 'I timed it really well but it's never nice to see someone down. I hope he's okay.'

Eric Dier went into the crowd to confront a Tottenham fan on Wednesday night The Spurs midfielder reacted angrily to a comment and went to confront the fan Stadium security had to restrain the Spurs star as he made his way into the stand

Eric Dier climbed into the crowd to angrily confront a Tottenham fan after a defeat to Norwich                                                                                                                                                                                                               Tottenham star Eric Dier sensationally jumped into the crowd to confront one of the club's supporters who was verbally abusing him after the north Londoners were knocked out of the FA Cup.
Dier was heading for the tunnel until he spotted his brother — a spectator at the match sitting in an area allocated for players' families where the incident occurred — arguing with the fan who had been abusing him.
He then clambered over rows of seats and stormed high into the crowd to wade in as tensions spilled over after Spurs had crashed out on penalties to Norwich, blowing their best hope of winning a trophy this season.
Footage shows a man in a black and orange coat running away as Dier approaches, before he is held back from chasing the supporter down a stairwell. Tottenham, the Metropolitan Police and the Football Association are all investigating the incident and a fan has already been identified.    Dier is facing an FA charge for an extraordinary incident which overshadowed their FA Cup exit against the Canaries.
The England international was heard on camera footage taken by one supporter near the incident shouting 'he's my brother, he's my brother' before he was ushered away from the flashpoint and through a door at the back of the stands by bystanders, including other fans and stewards.
Dier's brother was invited into the dressing room following the clash and the club are working to identify the fan — who ran off — that was singled out for abuse by Dier.
Dier has two brothers Edward and Patrick but Sportsmail believes it is the latter who appeared to hold the Tottenham utility man back.

Anthony Joshua has praised Tyson Fury's mentality following last month's win Fury defeated Deontay Wilder in the seventh round of their February rematch

Anthony Joshua (above) believes Tyson Fury's mentality has improved since his health issues                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Joshua believes Fury's 30 months away from the ring between November 2015 and June 2018 has made the Gypsy King an even better boxer. Joshua's British rival had previously been on a journey of anguish and despair before beating the undefeated Deontay Wilder  in their Las Vegas rematch in February. Fury is very talented. Wilder is very talented. They went in there and gave their best and one man came out on top.
'Maybe Wilder thought it was going to be an easier fight because Fury had a long lay-off and had his own issues outside of the ring and stuff like that.

Lyon 1-5 PSG: Kylian Mbappe's stunning hat-trick including an incredible 70-yard solo goal seals comprehensive win over 10-man Lyon in Coupe de France semi-finals

Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning hat-trick against Lyon in the semi-finals of the French Cup                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Lyon's Fernando Marcal was adjudged to have handled the ball and was given a second yellow for the offence, making the underdogs' task ever greater.
Mbappe took advantage of the extra man by scoring a dazzling second goal.
He won the ball deep in his own half and drove forward, breezing past two defenders before finishing in the bottom corner.

Tottenham 1-1 Norwich (2-3 pens): Jose Mourinho's men dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties, Norwich will go on to face the winner of Derby's clash with Manchester United

Norwich's players jubilantly celebrate after beating Tottenham on penalties on Wednesday                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The 36-year-old Dutch goalkeeper had not played in a competitive fixture of any kind since October 2018.
He had not started a game for even longer but Vorm was recalled against Norwich as Jose Mourinho gave Paulo Gazzaniga a breather in a competition he had set his sights firmly upon winning. Gazzaniga has not been faultless during Mourinho’s time at Spurs but Hugo Lloris was still out injured and when Vorm’s mistake presented Norwich with a late equaliser it did not seem like such a clever move.
Vorm was only able to pat down a ferocious strike from distance by Kenny McLean straight to the feet of Josip Drmic who reacted quickly and bundled the rebound into the net in the 78th minute.

Dolores Aveiro, 65, was admitted to hospital on the island of Madeira today She is said to be 'conscious and stable' after the removal of a blood clot

The Madeira Health Service said in a statement: 'We can confirm the admission of Dolores Aveiro in the early hours of March 3 with an ischemic stroke with a short evolution time.
'This enabled two vascular recanalization therapies to be carried out, one which was thrombolysis and another which was a thrombectomy.
'These therapies are contributing towards improving the prognosis. So far the evolution of the patient's clinical situation is proceeding as expected. Regional health chiefs confirmed last night Cristiano's mum had suffered an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a blood clot that blocks or plugs a blood vessel in the brain. Dolores was rushed to the hospital around 5am this morning. She was said to be 'conscious and stable' earlier today although the hospital has made no official comment on her condition following a request for privacy from her family who have also stayed silent so far.
Cristiano is set to remain overnight in Madeira but is expected to leave tomorrow morning unless his mother's condition worsens so he can be back in Italy in time for his side's cup match against Milan in the evening.
Dolores' health drama occurred hours after she posted a selfie showing her enjoying a day out on her home island.
She looked happy and relaxed as she posed for the photo yesterday/on Sunday by a monument in Machico, a small city on Madeira's east coast which was the island's first settlement.
The mother-of-four, who has more than two million followers on Instagram, wrote alongside the photo: 'Happy Sunday to everyone.'
Her daughter Katia responded with a heart emoticon and the words: 'My darling mum.'
A follower responded: 'Happy Sunday to you too Dolores. You're looking very nice.'
At the start of last year Dolores revealed she was 'fighting for her life' after a new cancer drama.
She beat breast cancer after being diagnosed with the disease in 2007.
But in February last year ahead of a trip to Italy to celebrate her footballer son's 35th birthday she admitted to new health problems.
She told a Portuguese TV station in a interview: 'I was operated on another breast in Madrid, I've had radiotherapy and now I'm fighting for my life.'

Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool, Willian opener as Liverpool goalkeeper shelled tame shot into his net Reds created openings but Kepa Arrizabalaga produced triple save to keep home side ahead early on

The Brazilian wheeled away towards the Chelsea supporters in celebration, hardly believing his luck in the 13th minute                                                                                                                                                                                                           A moment like that came along in the 64th minute on Tuesday night. Barkley striding through, Pedro in a prime scoring position, various observers willing him to pass, just pass mate, for God’s sake pass.
Yet, as feared, Barkley held on to it. Just long enough to score one of the goal’s of the season. Just long enough to score the goal that confirmed there would be no domestic double for Liverpool this year. On the last two occasions Chelsea have knocked them out of the FA Cup, 1997 and 2012, they have gone on to win it.
Keep playing like this and they will take some stopping this year, too. Chelsea were the better side, pretty much start to finish, and had the game’s star turn in 18-year-old Billy Gilmour. For all the clamour over Liverpool’s young players in this competition it was Gilmour who stole the show from the likes of Curtis Jones and Neco Williams.
,It wasn’t the best, but it was better than the Brazilian made it appear. Fabinho always looked troubled bringing it under control and he moved the ball on with panicked haste, straight to the feet of Willian.
He shot from outside the area, his speciality, and while the strike kept low and moved in the air, stand-in Adrian made a terrible hash of it. The ball squirmed off his knees and into the corner of the net. The pity was that less than a minute earlier he had a made a quite brilliant save to keep Liverpool level.
On this occasion it was Pedro whose shot was deflected across goal, to the feet of Willian. He hit one with such venom it seemed capable of leaving a smoking hole in anything that blocked its path. Instead, Adrian matched it with a stunning stop.   Liverpool were not happy to surrender this,. It was not a case of Klopp giving up on the FA Cup, certainly not on the back of a 3-0 reverse at Watford and a 1-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid.
Three of the first choice back four were present, plus Fabinho in midfield and Mane upfront. Given the points gap between these teams Klopp would have hoped to have had enough. No manager sets out to lose – certainly not to a significant rival such as Chelsea.
Normal service should be resumed on Saturday at home to Bournemouth and everyone knows where Liverpool’s priorities lie this season. Yet winning is a habit and it is one Liverpool have lost of late. This was their third defeat in four games, their worst run across all competitions since the end of the 2017-18 season, although that did include the Champions League final, and a semi-final against Roma which began with Liverpool holding a 5-2 first leg lead. Olivier Giroud set him away by winning a counter-attacking header against Curtis Jones – but Barkley’s run summed up Chelsea’s energy and ambition. He simply powered through, with Joe Gomez backing off, to significant cost. Pedro presented a handy passing option at the end but Barkley ignored him and went optimistically for goal instead. It beat Adrian to his right – giving Chelsea the cushion they desired and deserved, and smoothing a path into the quarter-finals. It was a goal that merited the defeat of Liverpool, whose invincibility is now very much in past tense.
By the end, Jurgen Klopp had introduced Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino from the bench, but never looked like finding a way through. Kepa Arrizabalaga, restored to Chelsea’s first team like a cup understudy which must have felt a mixed blessing, had been outstanding in the first-half but was called upon less and less.
The match belonged very much to Chelsea, who hit the bar twice in the second-half, through a Mason Mount free-kick and a good shot from Giroud, battling through on the edge of the area.

Tuesday 3 March 2020

the England international played a full 90 minutes for the U23s Chelsea's youngsters narrowly beat Everton 1-0 at Aldershot on Monday night,

Loftus-Cheek's return will come as a massive boost to Chelsea manager Frank Lampard                                                                                                                                                                                                    The 24-year-old midfielder was involved throughout the Premier League 2 fixture at Aldershot, showing glimpses of great skill before winning the decisive penalty that sealed the narrow win for the Blues.
Loftus-Cheek played an hour in a training ground match for the development squad against Brentford B a month ago and has been an unused substitute in recent games for Lampard's first-team.
But Monday proved a real significant moment for Loftus-Cheek as he successfully lasted the full 90 against the Toffees.
And he played a massively influential role, winning the late penalty for Chelsea after Everton captain Beni Baningime barged him in the back as he shielded the ball. Loftus-Cheek has been out of action since May after he ruptured the achilles tendon in his left leg playing in a post-season friendly for Chelsea against New England Revolution.
But on Monday night, the England international played a full 90 minutes for the first time in 10 months as he played a crucial role in Chelsea's Under 23s 1-0 victory over Everton. Loftus-Cheek's recovery had been slowed down by a number of setbacks but he is finally on the verge of a first-team return again.
His return will provide Lampard with a massive boost heading into the final period of the season with Chelsea desperately looking to secure a Champions League spot.
The Blues. who have been very inconsistent in recent times, currently sit fourth in the Premier League just three points above Manchester United and Wolves with 10 matches remaining.

Mikel Arteta's men at Fratton Park, David Luiz has since hailed his centre back partner for his 'amazing' display

The Gunners booked their place in the FA Cup quarter finals thanks to goals in either half from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Eddie Nketiah at Fratton Park on Monday night.
And Mari looked extremely composed at the back as Arsenal weathered an early Portsmouth storm to keep a very welcome clean sheet. Following the final whistle on the south coast, Luiz hailed 'great guy' and 'great player' Mari as he finally made his first start for the club after returning to full fitness. The 32-year-old, who captained Arsenal on Monday, told the Club's official website: 'I'm so happy for Pablo, he's a great guy, a great player and he had an amazing game so we are here to help each other and we are here, 25 players, ready to play, ready to play for Arsenal and ready to give the best job.

Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder in emphatic fashion to claim the WBC title There has been talk of a future unification bout with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua

Fans are now craving for Fury to go up against Anthony Joshua in a dream unification fight                                                                                        Bellew told Sky Sports programme Soccer AM on Saturday: 'It's an amazing match up. I still believe styles make fights and everyone's going to say to me "boo, you're sticking by Matchroom". I just think AJ's style will be all wrong for Tyson Fury.
'I believe that because Wilder has the bigger punch than AJ, but Wilder is not technically good enough to put Fury in a position to nail him and that's why he couldn't land on the night.
'Anthony Joshua is technically good enough, you're talking about an Olympic gold medallist, a guy who is technically and fundamentally is good, he does have speed, he's a brilliant athlete, he functions the right way. While Fury remains undefeated after his latest win, former WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew believes he would struggle with Joshua's style of boxing if the two were to square off.

LeBron James scored 34 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds against the Pelicans The Lakers overcame New Orleans 122-114 on Sunday after James' top display

LeBron James was in irresistible form as he scored 34 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds                                                                                                                                                                                                  The Lakers gradually pulled away after that, aided by James' 3 with 2:27 left
'He is who he is - incredible player,' Williamson said of James. 'I give respect when it's due. He hit a big shot and it helped them seal the game.'
Davis, who spent the first seven of his eight seasons with New Orleans, sat out with a sore right knee, one night after playing in the Lakers' 105-88 loss at Memphis. His injury did not appear too serious; he was on the bench in street clothes and routinely reacted to the action on the court by springing out of his seat and standing on the sideline. James had 34 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds, and Los Angeles overcame both Davis' absence and Williamson's highest-scoring game to beat New Orleans 122-114 on Sunday night.
'Obviously, spectacular performance by LeBron James,' Lakers coach Frank Vogel said. 'His shot-making was ridiculous from both in the post, with turnaround jump shots, and at the 3-point line. When they brought double-teams, he is one of the best passers in the league,' Vogel added. 'He showed it tonight and picked their defense apart.'
Williamson finished with 35 points, but his largely productive and highlight-filled night was marred somewhat by six turnovers.

Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi was booked for sarcastically placing the ball down Mike Dean cautioned the Frenchman during the FA Cup tie against Portsmouth

Guendouzi sarcastically slams the ball on the turf in full view of Dean during the first half                                                               Arsenal fans were left incensed on Monday after Matteo Guendouzi was booked for theatrically placing the ball down for a free kick by referee Mike Dean.
The French midfielder was cautioned by Dean during the first half of the Gunners' FA Cup tie with Portsmouth, leaving supporters bemused as to why he was booked.
Moments before the caution, Guendouzi managed to win his side a free kick just before the interval but when he tried to take it quickly, he was told the ball wasn't taken in the correct place. When he tried taking it again, Dean pointed out that the ball was again not in the correct position leading to a frustrated Guendouzi picking up the ball high above his head before placing it on the ground with his arms outstretched.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Bernabeu for Sunday night's El Clasico Ronaldo clapped after Vinicius Jr fired Real Madrid in front on 71 minutes

Ronaldo clapped after Vinicius Jr fired Madrid in front at the Bernabeu on 71 minutes                                                                            Ronaldo returned to the Bernabeu to watch El Clasico and entered the stadium in a low key black van to avoid being detected by fans.
Supporters and TV cameras soon spotted him sat in the stands and he showed he still holds the club close to his heart after his jubilant celebrations. Vinicius put Madrid in front on 71 minutes and then copied Ronaldo's famous celebration as the Portuguese clapped in appreciation from his seat.
