The 26-year-old suffered the injury in a freak accident while training with Belgium shortly after he helped Chelsea to a fifth Premier League title and a second since his arrival in 2012. He was originally expected to be ready for the start of their title defence but doctors ruled that surgery was required to fix the damage and he is now expected to be out of action until September.
While he may be missing out on the club's tour of Asia, where they face glamour friendlies against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, he was at least on hand to welcome Alvaro Morata upon his first visit to the club on Friday.
Tiemoue Bakayoko, a summer signing from Monaco, is also present at Cobham and is undergoing his own course of rehabilitation following knee surgery earlier this summer.
