Manchester United 1-1 Real Madrid (2-1 penalties): Shootout success for Jose Mourinho's men after Casemiro cancelled out Jesse Lingard's opener

Jesse Lingard embraces Frenchman Anthony Martial after putting Mourinho's men ahead in first half injury time                                                                                                                                                                                                                        The United boss confirmed that talks have taken place between the two clubs and he did not want to keep De Gea against his wishes.

But he indicated that Madrid walked away from a £60million deal, leaving De Gea unhappy at the Spanish giants and determined to focus on his career at Old Trafford.
‘I can guarantee that he’s not going this season,’ said Mourinho. ‘For me, 100 per cent he stays with us.’
‘He was contacted for a long time. The club was closed, then we open because I always have this feeling of when a player has a desire to go I don’t like to stop players to go because in the end you don’t get what you expect from them if they want to move and they don’t.
‘So we open it and then they decided to close and I don’t think the feeling from him (towards Real) is very very good. I see him very happy and focused and working better than ever.’
De Gea looked like a man possessed in the shootout even though he had been unable to keep out Casemiro’s equaliser from the spot in the 69th minute. It came after United’s new £31m defender Victor Lindelof had been guilty of hacking down Theo Hernandez.

United had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of some utterly sublime skill from Anthony Martial.Martial can be mesmerising and he can be infuriating. Here, on an occasion packed with big names, he produced the stand-out moment of the match.
The young Frenchman appeared to be hemmed in on the byeline by Daniel Carvajal and Luka Modric when he took possession on the stroke of half-time and sized up the situation.
What followed was something of a blur as Martial transferred the ball back and forth between his right foot and left, bamboozling his way past the two Madrid players.
Raphael Varane was next, but rather than try and beat another opponent Martial took the sensible option and slid the ball wide of the Frenchman to the back post where Jesse Lingard was waiting to tap home.
It was the highlight of an otherwise routine encounter between two clubs who will be at another level when they meet in the European Super Cup in Macedonia on August 8.
The back-to-back European champions were playing their first game of pre-season, and were without their World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo.
