The midfielder enjoyed an illustrious career before hanging up his boots in January.
The 36-year-old won the 2006 World Cup with Italy and became a legend at Roma, making 616 appearances across 17 seasons. A move to Old Trafford was on the cards for the defensive maestro but he opted to remain in Serie A. The midfielder has gained huge praise from legends of the game with Thierry Henry calling him 'the greatest in Premier League history', whilst Brazilian legend Pele admitted: 'If he was playing with me, I would have scored so many more.'
De Rossi moved to Argentinian side Boca Juniors in 2019 and played for six months before retiring from football. He has since expressed his desire to one day coach Roma.
'It was really my desire to go to Boca Juniors. I never chose to leave Roma, but I felt like a god at Boca.' 'I went on a football path that is not unique, but rare,' he added. 'Playing 20 years on a team does not happen every day. I can't dream of the same thing if I become a coach, there are no coaches that last so long.
'I would like to coach Roma, but first I have to become a coach and to do it there is a growth path that all young coaches need.
'In a few days I became from an old footballer to a young coach, I see things with a relaxation that you cannot afford as a footballer.
'I'd like to sit on that bench, but I'm in no hurry to make it happen tomorrow. I presume I hope it will happen: it will happen if I have become a good coach and not because I have been a very important player for Roma.'
